Cabin Stay or Fully Hosted Stay - Which one is right for you?

Our farm in warm autumn light. The cabins are at the front and behind on the river side is grandpa’s house and our house. On the left is old barn and cow house.

Two different ways to experience Lapland. The same philosophy.

Not everyone dreams of the same kind of holiday.

Some people love the freedom of travelling independently. They enjoy planning their own days, discovering places at their own pace and having somewhere peaceful to return to each evening.

Others would rather leave the planning behind.

They want to arrive somewhere new without spending hours researching activities, comparing companies, organising transport or wondering whether they are making the right choices. They want to experience a place through the people who know it - to hear their stories, discover their favorite places and perhaps experience something they would never have found on their own.

Neither approach is better than the other.

And that is exactly why we have created two different ways to stay with us at Polar Tranquil.

Cabin Stay and Fully Hosted Stay.

Both share the same surroundings, the same philosophy and the same belief that Lapland is best experienced without rushing.

But the experience itself can be quite different.

Our two cabins with our new outdoor hot tubs installed this summer. Both cabins also have their own sauna.

Cabin Stay - the freedom to follow your own rhythm

Our Cabin Stay is for travellers who value independence, privacy and having the freedom to spend their days exactly as they wish.

You stay in one of our private log cabins, built by Noora's grandfather in the 1991, on land that has belonged to her family for generations.

Each cabin has its own sauna, outdoor hot tub and fully equipped kitchenette. Breakfast and airport transfers are included, along with small outdoor essentials such as snowshoes, a day backpack, headlamps, a thermos and cups.

We have tried to think of the little things that make arriving somewhere new easier.

But once you have settled in, the time is yours.

Perhaps you wake up early to watch the first light appear over the snowy landscape.

Perhaps you spend the morning reading, enjoying a slow breakfast or sitting by the window with a cup of coffee.

You might head into Levi for a day of skiing, book a tour with a local operator, explore the nearby forest on snowshoes or simply spend the afternoon in your sauna.

And if the northern lights appear above the cabins, you can step outside without having to go anywhere.

There is no set itinerary to follow.

No expectation that you need to be somewhere at a certain time.

And no pressure to make every day extraordinary.

Because sometimes the most memorable days are the ones when very little was planned.

Independent, but not completely on your own

Although our Cabin Stay is designed for independent travellers, we are never far away.

We live on the same family property, next to the cabins.

We are happy to share local recommendations, help you understand the surroundings or offer advice when needed.

But we also understand the value of privacy.

We won't appear at your cabin every morning asking what you are planning to do.

Your holiday belongs to you.

We are simply nearby if you need us.

A Cabin Stay is for you if you enjoy travelling independently but appreciate having local knowledge and a little extra care close at hand.

Fully Hosted Stay

Experience Lapland through the people who call it home

Our Fully Hosted Stay is something different.

It is not simply a Cabin Stay with more activities added to the itinerary.

It is a much more personal way of experiencing Lapland.

Instead of arriving with a long list of reservations and plans, you can leave much of the organising to us.

Before your arrival, we get to know you.

What interests you? What kind of experiences are you hoping for? Have you visited the Arctic before? Do you enjoy spending time outdoors? Are you looking for adventure, rest, cultural experiences or a little of everything?

And perhaps most importantly:

How do you want to feel during your time here?

Because we believe a meaningful journey should begin with understanding the people who are taking it.

From there, we create a stay around your interests, the season and what we genuinely believe is worth experiencing.

Not around a list of activities that every visitor is expected to complete.

More than an itinerary

Between us, we have spent years guiding and working with guests in Finnish Lapland, Svalbard and Antarctica.

We have seen how easily travelling can become a race from one experience to the next.

But we have also witnessed how meaningful the simplest moments can be.

During our years working on polar expeditions, some of the most memorable moments were not necessarily the spectacular wildlife encounters or dramatic landscapes.

Sometimes they were the moments when we asked everyone to stop.

To put away their cameras.

To listen.

To notice the silence.

Often, those were the moments guests spoke about long after the journey had ended.

It is something we have carried with us into Polar Tranquil.

We don't believe that hosting someone well means keeping them entertained from morning until evening.

Sometimes it means recognising when to do less.

Sometimes it means changing the plan because the weather has created an unexpected opportunity.

And sometimes it means knowing when to leave guests alone to enjoy the place.

This place will forever be Noora’s mummola (grandma’s house) but now we are also fortunate to call this place home.

A connection to local life

One of the things that makes our Fully Hosted Stays particularly personal is the connection to the place itself.

For us, this is home.

Not a destination we discovered through tourism, but a landscape Noora grew up in.

The forests, rivers, seasons and small communities around us are part of everyday life.

Our cabins stand on family land and Noora's grandfather still lives here.

When we share a meal at his house, it is not a restaurant experience created for tourists.

It is an opportunity to sit down together, enjoy home-cooked food and experience a small part of the family life that has shaped this place.

We believe these connections are valuable.

Not because they are extraordinary to us, but because they are real.

They are the kinds of experiences that are difficult to find when visiting a place entirely on your own.

And they are part of what we hope to share through our hosted stays.

During Fully Hosted Stays we will end each day in the same table and enjoy grandpa’s cookings. If you book our regular Cabin Stay - you can still book dinners with us. We are not a restaurant so these will need to be arranged before hand!

Carefully chosen experiences, not endless activities

A Fully Hosted Stay might include a day exploring the forest together, an outdoor lunch, a visit to another local family or a carefully chosen activity with one of our trusted partners.

It might include time in Levi, a longer excursion into the surrounding region or simply an afternoon spent enjoying the cabin.

Every stay is different.

We do not believe that a longer activity list automatically creates a better holiday.

In fact, we often encourage guests to leave more space in their plans than they originally intended.

Because the Arctic is not a place where everything follows a schedule.

The weather changes.

The light changes.

The northern lights cannot be ordered.

And sometimes the best experiences are the ones that were never part of the original plan.

A Fully Hosted Stay is for you if you would rather leave the planning to someone else and experience Lapland in a more personal way, through local knowledge, shared moments and carefully chosen experiences.

What both stays have in common

Although the level of hosting is different, the heart of Polar Tranquil remains the same.

Whether you choose a Cabin Stay or a Fully Hosted Stay, you are staying in the same small, family-owned place near Levi.

You have the same peaceful surroundings.

The same opportunity to enjoy your private sauna and outdoor hot tub.

The same dark skies, forests and changing seasons.

And the same philosophy behind the experience.

We believe that travel should give you something, rather than simply ask more of you.

That you do not need to fill every day to make the journey worthwhile.

That the people, animals and landscapes behind an experience deserve care and respect.

And that choosing fewer things, more thoughtfully, can often lead to a richer experience.

We also believe that comfort doesn't always need to mean luxury.

Sometimes comfort is knowing that someone has thought about the details before you arrive.

Sometimes it is having the freedom to spend an entire afternoon doing nothing.

And sometimes it is knowing that someone you trust has taken care of the planning so you don't have to.

So, which stay should you choose?

Perhaps the easiest way to decide is to ask yourself one question:

Do you want to plan your own time in Lapland, or would you rather experience it with someone who knows the place?

If you enjoy making your own plans, choosing your activities and having complete freedom over your schedule, our Cabin Stay will probably suit you best.

You can explore independently, return to the warmth of your cabin whenever you wish and enjoy the surroundings at your own pace.

If you would rather spend less time organising and more time experiencing, our Fully Hosted Stay may be the better choice.

We take care of the planning, organise meals and experiences according to your interests and share more of our time and local knowledge with you.

The difference is not simply about what is included.

It is about how involved you would like us to be in your journey.

And there is no right or wrong answer.

Why we don't offer one-night stays

Whichever way you choose to stay with us, we believe that time is an important part of the experience.

Our Cabin Stays have a minimum of three nights, while Fully Hosted Stays are planned individually.

We chose not to build Polar Tranquil around short, constantly changing visits.

Travelling to Lapland often takes time and arriving somewhere new takes time too.

The first evening might simply be about settling in, unpacking, heating the sauna and becoming familiar with your surroundings.

The next morning, you begin to notice things you missed when you arrived.

The light through the window.

The quiet outside.

The way the landscape changes throughout the day.

And gradually, you might find yourself thinking less about what comes next.

Three nights is a beginning.

But if you can stay longer, we warmly encourage it.

Not because there is so much you need to do here.

But because there is something valuable about finally having enough time to do less.

There is another way to visit Lapland

More slow. More personal.

When we started Polar Tranquil, we did not want to create another place where visitors are encouraged to do as much as possible in as little time as possible.

We wanted to create something smaller.

A place where guests could feel welcome without needing to follow someone else's idea of the perfect Lapland holiday.

For some people, that means having their own cabin and the freedom to disappear into a slower rhythm.

For others, it means allowing us to take care of the details and share the place through our eyes.

Both are equally welcome here.

Because ultimately, Polar Tranquil is not about how much you do during your stay.

It is about how you experience the time you have.

Two different ways to stay. The same philosophy.

There is another way to visit Lapland.

And we would love to welcome you here.
